Born in Sheboygan WI, Thomas joined the Army in the 1980s, to have the possibility of pursuing higher education at Ripon College, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. As a tank platoon leader, expert paratrooper and parachute rigger, he faced combat in Operation Desert Storm and in Central America. Thomas was later awarded the grade of Captain and received the honorable discharge in 1992 . In spite of his many service-related injuries, he kept the position of quality manager for the Packaging Company of America for many years. At this day, Thomas keeps writing his journals and practices photography: the highly decorated veteran testifies his willingness to stay in touch with the most human and sensitive core of his soul.
